An exfoliant is used to smooth away dead skin cells that have accumulated on the surface of your skin in order to maintain youthful, healthy-looking skin that remains free of blemishes.

There are two main types of exfoliation: Mechanical and Chemical Mechanical Exfoliants scrub away dead skin cells using physical particles.   Chemical exfoliants use either acids or enzymes to loosen the connections between dead skin cells.
